How the Helix® Core™ series 3020 reduced glove spend by 31% | HVAC

When work gloves wear out in about a week, the costs can add up quickly. That’s exactly what one Midwest HVAC manufacturing facility was experiencing: the Ansell gloves workers relied on weren’t holding up to the demands of the job, creating a need for better durability and protection. The Helix® 3020 changed that equation entirely.

The problem: Gloves that couldn’t make it through the day

Workers at an HVAC manufacturer in the Midwest regularly encountered cut and puncture hazards as part of their daily responsibilities. Their existing Ansell gloves provided protection, but they broke down quickly under the demands of the job.

Employees were burning through a new pair almost every week, driving up costs and creating constant PPE turnover. Beyond the rising cost, their safety team also saw an opportunity to provide workers with a higher level of cut protection.

They needed a glove that could handle the work, protect better against cuts, and actually last - without forcing workers into uncomfortable PPE.

The solution: Putting the Helix® 3020 to the test

The benefits of the Helix Core 3020 work glove.

With glove durability and cost already under review, the facility’s procurement and safety teams saw an opportunity to take a fresh look at the glove program and raise the minimum level of cut protection at the same time.

In an effort to reduce injuries and costs, the team decided to trial the Helix® Core 3020 work glove to see whether it could outperform Ansell on both durability and protection.

The difference became clear during the trial. Instead of replacing their gloves on a weekly basis, workers were able to wear one pair of Helix® Core™ series 3020 gloves for nearly two full workweeks. It also marked the first glove rollout in more than 10 years that didn’t draw a single complaint.

The new gloves also increased cut protection by one level to ANSI/ISEA 105-2024 A5, helping to fully address hazards present in the facility without sacrificing wear life. Combined with fewer gloves needed per worker, the early trial results pointed to real progress on both protection and overall PPE usage.

The results: Longer wear life, better protection, and lower costs

After switching to the Helix® Core™ series 3020 and seeing measurable improvements in both protection and glove performance, the results more than proved themselves.

  • Wear life nearly doubled, from about one workweek per pair to close to two
  • Cut protection increased a full level, from ANSI/ISEA 105-2024 A4 to A5
  • Annual glove costs dropped by 31%
  • First glove rollout in more than 10 years without a single worker complaint

For this HVAC company, making the switch to HexArmor® was simple: the Helix® Core™ series 3020 offered better protection, longer wear life, and 31% in annual savings. That’s an upgrade any safety team would make.
