HexArmor® beats 48 competitive styles with X1 safety eyewear | Utilities

A utility company was having fogging, comfort, and waste issues with the safety eyewear they were using on-site. After an open-bid, extensive trial across all departments with six different safety eyewear brands and 48 individual models of eyewear total, see how HexArmor® safety eyewear ranked number one.

The issue

Workers at a utility company were using Catalyst™ safety glasses on-site and began complaining about fogging and comfort issues. Because of this, eyewear was constantly being taken off which caused additional durability and misplacement issues, as well as non-compliance. Eventually, the frequent eyewear replacement needs not only became very costly but led to significant eyewear waste.

With over 200 workers in need of eye protection, the Safety Director decided to run an open-bid, extensive trial across all departments to find the best safety eyewear solution on the market.

The solution

In total, six different safety eyewear brands and 48 individual models of eyewear total were trialed to see which would help them eliminate the fogging, comfort, and fit complaints they were having.

Different tints, gasketed, and non-gasketed eyewear were tested, with a broad range of lower-tier to premium-tier brands including HexArmor®, Bolle, 3M, Clean guard, Proximity, and Jackson Nemesis.

The trial consisted of an eight-person committee, each from a different department, who would gather results over a two-week trial period for each eyewear. The main factor they were looking for was comfort, as comfortable eyewear will stay on the employees’ faces helping increase compliance and prolonging the life span of the eyewear – thereby increasing its value – and the second factor was anti-fog abilities.

To get accurate testing results, individuals wore each pair for eight days and kept a diary of results, then would move on to another pair to document that option.

HexArmor® safety eyewear that was tested consisted of three frames in clear and grey 23% tint options, as well as with and without a gasket.

The result

At the end of the extensive trialing, HexArmor’s X1 safety eyewear frame was rated number one overall in comfort AND anti-fog, followed by the MX300 which was rated number two, both in the Clear/Grey 23% tint.

X1 safety eyewear

HexArmor® ranked higher in worker preference and overall performance and Wearability® than 48 top contenders and popular brands.

Wearability® is HexArmor’s safety eyewear promise, delivering the perfect balance of comfort, fit, performance, and style in every single frame. Learn more about our eyewear technology here. Plus, each pair includes our truly permanent anti-fog and scratch-resistant TruShield® coatings that won’t wash off over time like competitor coatings.

This is a perfect example of how comfort can lead to increased wear and a decrease in eyewear waste. The trial also concluded that non-gasketed eyewear was wildly preferred over gasketed.
